Required Documents
- Completed and signed Schengen visa application form (minors: signed by both parents/legal guardians).
- Recent passport-size colour photograph on a light background, facing forward; no dark/reflective glasses or garments concealing the face; photographs of minors must not show any part of the adult holding them.
- Valid passport: valid for at least 3 months beyond planned departure from Schengen territory, issued within the last 10 years, and containing at least 2 blank pages.
- Photocopies of passport pages containing biometric data, previous visas from different countries and migration stamps of the current and last passport.
- Travel medical insurance (submit front page): covers repatriation, urgent healthcare and emergency hospital treatment throughout the Schengen area; minimum cover €30,000 (for multiple-entry visas the insurance must be valid for the first planned entry).
- Proof of travel: roundtrip flight booking / return or tourist circuit ticket (do not buy full non-refundable tickets before visa is granted).
- Proof of accommodation for the whole stay (hotel reservation or confirmed organised trip) or, if visiting family/friends, an invitation letter from the resident in Spain (for family visits the invitation may be issued by the Spanish national police).
- Proof of sufficient financial means: original stamped & signed bank statements for the last 3 months; salary slips for last 3 months; Income Tax Returns (ITR/Form 16) for last two years; self-attested PAN card copy; if sponsored, original signed sponsor letter detailing support plus sponsor's bank statements and proof of relationship where relevant.
- Note on amounts: in 2023, minimum required is €108 per person per day and, regardless of length of stay, at least €972 or equivalent must be available.
- Bank letters or online bank statements will not be accepted as proof of funds (original stamped & signed statements required).
- Purpose-specific documents as applicable: cover letter explaining trip; invitation letter from Spain-based company for business; organizer invitation for conferences/fairs/sports events; enrollment/acceptance letter for study/training/volunteer programmes under 90 days.
- Proof of residence in the consular district (e.g., recent utility bills no older than 6 months, copy of lease or house deed).
- Minors travelling alone or without both parents/legal guardians: notarized authorization letter signed by both parents/legal guardians; self-attested copies of passports of both parents/legal guardians.
- Submit applications in person through the authorised Visa Application Centre (BLS Spain visa centres) for this consular district.
- Biometrics: facial image and fingerprints will be captured during application (exemptions: applicants under 12, or applicants whose fingerprints were taken in the last 59 months).
- Apply between 6 months and 15 days before planned travel (seafarers: up to 9 months before).
- Decision time: normally 15 calendar days from the day after submission; may be extended to 45 calendar days if additional documents/interview required; some nationalities/applications require consultation that can further extend processing.
- Payment of the applicable visa fee is required (page refers to visa fees; amount not specified on the provided material).
- A visa does not guarantee entry; travellers must still meet Schengen entry conditions at the border (identity document/visa if required, evidence of purpose, sufficient means, not subject to entry ban; 90/180-day rule applies).
- If visa refused, an appeal for reconsideration may be submitted to the Consular Office within 1 month of notification; judicial review may be filed with the High Court Justice of Madrid within 2 months.

The Schengen visa allows travel to and transit through Schengen States but does not automatically guarantee entry at border controls. Entry may be denied if entry requirements are not met, if the traveller is subject to an entry ban, or if the traveller has exhausted the permitted 90 days within the previous 180 days.
