Required Documents
- Apply online through Immigration New Zealand's enhanced Immigration Online and pay the applicable fee (paper applications not accepted for most visitor visas from 1 Oct 2026).
- Copy of passport or certificate of identity (passport must be valid for at least 3 months after your planned date of leaving New Zealand).
- Acceptable visa photos (follow 'Acceptable photos for a visa or NZeTA').
- Evidence of onward/return travel: ticket to leave New Zealand, proof you can buy one, or sponsor agreement to pay for onward travel.
- Evidence you have enough money to live on: at least NZD $1,000 per month (or NZD $400 per month if accommodation is already paid) — bank or credit card statements, traveller's cheques, etc. Statements must show the account is in the applicant's name and currency.
- Proof of plans in New Zealand (accommodation bookings, itinerary) to demonstrate genuine intentions.
- If you have a sponsor: completed Sponsorship Form for Temporary Entry (INZ 1025) and sponsor supporting documents (recent bank statements, payslips, accommodation documents).
- Police certificates if required (you must provide police certificates that are less than 6 months old when you apply in certain situations).
- Chest X-ray or medical examination evidence if required (evidence must be less than 3 months old when INZ receives them).
- Translations to English of any documents not in English (translated by an approved translator) and copies of originals.
- If including partner/dependent children: evidence of relationship (marriage/birth certificates), identity documents and photos; complete Additional Dependants for a Visitor Visa form if required.
- Keep your eVisa letter (or NZeTA confirmation where applicable) and ensure passport details match your eVisa/NZeTA before travel.
- Complete the New Zealand Traveller Declaration (NZTD) within 24 hours before travel by air or sea.

Your passport or certificate of identity must be valid for at least 3 months after the date you plan to leave New Zealand.

Have at least NZD $1,000 per month for living costs (or NZD $400 per month if accommodation already paid). Evidence can include bank statements, credit card statements, traveller's cheques; account must be in applicant's name and show bank and currency.
INZ recommends you have full medical insurance for your stay. You or your sponsor must pay for any health care or medical assistance needed.
A return/onward ticket to leave New Zealand, proof you can buy one, or sponsor's bank statements showing they can pay for your travel out of New Zealand.
To include partner and dependent children (aged 19 or younger) provide relationship evidence (marriage/birth certificates), identity documents and acceptable photos. If including dependants, submit Additional Dependants form if required. Police certificates may be required for applicants aged 17+ in certain long-stay situations.
Processing time shown: 80% within 2 weeks. Processing is busiest between September and March — apply early. From 1 Oct 2026 many visitor visa applications must be submitted online through enhanced Immigration Online; paper forms will only be accepted in exceptional circumstances.
Most travellers must have a visa or an NZeTA before travel; NZeTA applies to some passport holders (noted on INZ site). Ensure passport details match your eVisa; if you change passports, apply to transfer your visa before you travel. You must complete the New Zealand Traveller Declaration prior to arrival (from 24 hours before travel by air or sea).
