Required Documents

  1. Valid Schengen (C) visa application โ€” visa is required for Indian passport holders for tourism to Germany.
  2. Passport: issued within the last 10 years; valid for at least 3 months after your scheduled departure from the Schengen area; at least 2 empty pages.
  3. Complete VIDEX online Schengen application, print all pages including barcodes, and sign the form.
  4. 1 biometric passport photo (35ร—45 mm, white background, 70โ€“80% face coverage), not older than 6 months.
  5. Cover letter plus proof of intended transport and a detailed itinerary.
  6. Proof of accommodation for the whole stay (hotel reservation, holiday home, or host-sponsorship/private accommodation with hostโ€™s signature, address, and copy of host ID/passport). If visiting multiple Schengen states, provide proof for each.
  7. Proof of economic means โ€” recent bank statements, payslips, employment letter, ITR/Form 16, etc.; if sponsored, sponsorโ€™s letter and sponsor bank statements.
  8. Travel medical insurance covering the entire Schengen trip, valid in all Schengen countries, minimum coverage EUR 30,000 (German missions in India accept Indian travel insurance only from approved Indian insurers).
  9. For minors: both parents must sign the application and declarations; provide the childโ€™s birth certificate, parentsโ€™ passport copies, and custody/authorization documents where applicable.
  10. Submit application at a German mission / VFS centre in India (applications forwarded to the German Consulate General in Mumbai for decision).
  11. If fingerprints were taken for a Schengen visa in India within the last 59 months, someone else may submit the application on your behalf with authorization.
  12. Be prepared for Entry/Exit System (EES) biometric collection on entry to the Schengen area.
Passport validity

Passport issued within the last 10 years; valid for at least 3 months after scheduled departure from Schengen; at least 2 blank pages.

Photo requirements

1 biometric passport photo, 35ร—45 mm, white background, 70โ€“80% face coverage, not older than 6 months.

Financial proof

No fixed daily amount stated; provide recent bank statements, payslips, employment letter, ITR/Form 16. If sponsored, include sponsorโ€™s letter and sponsor bank statements.

Travel insurance

Travel medical insurance valid for the entire Schengen trip, valid in all Schengen countries, minimum coverage EUR 30,000; German missions in India accept policies only from approved Indian insurers.

Processing note

Apply via German mission/VFS in India; applications are forwarded to the German Consulate General in Mumbai. Processing averages 15 days after application reaches the Consulate; allow up to 6 working days for delivery/logistics. Applications may be returned unprocessed if travel is within 15 calendar days of receipt except in exceptional circumstances.

Important notes

Germany does not offer visa-on-arrival or a tourist eVisa for Indian passport holders (visa must be obtained before travel). No separate Germany arrival form was identified in the official material reviewed.
