Batumi

Batumi is Georgia's Black Sea resort city and pairs naturally with a Tbilisi trip as a coastal extension, or works as a standalone beach-and-city break. The Batumi Boulevard promenade runs along the seafront with the landmark Alphabet Tower and Ali and Nino moving sculpture, while the old town keeps a distinct Ajarian character with a livelier café and nightlife scene than Tbilisi. The Batumi Botanical Garden, set on a headland outside the centre, is a genuine half-day out with sea views along the whole walk.

Batumi's own international airport (BUS) makes it workable as a direct arrival point, though many Indian itineraries route through Tbilisi first and take the roughly 5 to 6 hour road or rail journey down, stopping at inland towns on the way. Summer is the peak beach season and also the busiest and priciest; late spring and early autumn keep the city pleasant with smaller crowds.
